May Recap!!

It's time for my May recap!
It was another good month for reading. I have started getting in to graphic novels and I likey.  May was also my month for returning to the library. I hadn't been in a LONG time. I'm always looking at my books and my eyes always return to the ones that I read and ended up not liking and now I'm stuck with these books that I paid hard-earned money for. And that makes me sad. And mad.  Because ideally, I'd like to actually like all the books that I own.

I have a tendency to buy books when I'm upset or they're on sale. That's when I'm at my most dangerous.  I'm going to start checking out books from the library and if I end up loving the book, I will then purchase a copy.
This doesn't mean I'm going to stop buying books, I'm just going to be A LOT more selective. So yeah!

Another piece of good news on a non-bookish front, I will officially begin working from home in 3 weeks and I. CAN'T. WAIT. WOOT.
ALSO, I will be going to a Neil Gaiman signing towards the end of June!
My hibernation period is getting ready to be in full swing. It's already in the 90's where I live and I have a feeling the temperature is just going to continue to climb. I can't stand the heat. So basically, summer is my time to go into hiding and hibernate and then I'll come out in the fall to play.

Now. ON TO THE BOOKS!

For the month of May, I managed to read 10 books, 4 graphic novels, and 1 audiobook.

Books:

Hopeless (Colleen Hoover) - 4/5

Sweet Peril (Wendy Higgins) - 4/5

A Beautiful Evil (Kelly Keaton) 3.5/5

Deep Desires (Charlotte Stein)- 3/5

Dark Triumph (Robin LaFevers) - 5/5, FANTASTIC

One Day (David Nicholls)  -3.5/5, This book would have received a higher rating but I hated the ending

Cryer's Cross (Lisa McMann) - 2/5, disappointing book

The Symptoms of my Insanity (Mindy Raf) - 3.5/5

The Archived (Victoria Schwab) - 4.5/5, this book was refreshingly unique!

Ready Player One (Ernest Cline) - 5/5, also amazing

Graphic Novels:

Stitches (David Small) - 3/5

The Underwater Welder (Jeff Lemire) - I would rate the artwork as 5/5, but the story 3/5

Maus vol.1 & 2 (Art Spiegelman) - 5/5

Audiobook:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - I don't listen to books on CD very often, but the narrator, Jim Dale, was EXCELLENT.  5/5

I had one DNF this month. I read about 100 or so pages and gave it up. It wasn't terrible, but I was bored. I'm done forcing myself to finish books I'm not in to.

As far as my personal book challenges...well...I'll be doing a separate update post on those later in the week. I guess it's almost the half-way mark. I'm killing one of them but the others...not so good.

May OUT.

Book Haul!!

This here's a book haul!

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

The first 3 books I bought through Amazon the beginning of May. I've actually already read them. Dark Triumph was AMAZING!! LOVEDLOVED it. Better than Grave Mercy. The other 2 weren't as good as the first in the series. (My picture taking skills are pretty crappy today.)

Sweet Peril (Missy Higgins)  - The first book in the series is Sweet Evil

A Beautiful Evil (Kelly Keaton) -The first book in the series is Darkness Becomes Her

Dark Triumph (Robin LaFevers) - The first book in the series is Grave Mercy

The next couple books I bought for VERY CHEAP at the library sale they had today:

Shift (Rachel Vincent)- I own this whole series on my Kindle and have read them all. One of my favorite series! I want to collect them all in hard copy form.

My Soul to Take (Rachel Vincent)

Rebel Angels (Libba Bray)

Breathless (Dean Koontz)

I think I paid $3.00 for all of them together.

The last group of books I checked out from the library. I forgot how amazing the library is. I want to get away from owning books I don't love. So my solution is to use the library more. If I read a book and end up loving it, I will just then purchase a copy for my collection.

Love and Other Perishable Items (Laura Buzo)

The Other Normals (Ned Vizzini)

Invisibility (Andrea Cremer & David Levithan)

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Douglas Adams)

A Great and Terrible Beauty (Libba Bray)

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Sherman Alexie)

The Madman's Daughter (Megan Shepherd)

Friends with Boys (Faith Erin Hicks) - Graphic Novel

Notorious Nineteen (Janet Evanovich) - I WILL read this series until the end of time. I just can't help it.

Blankets (Craig Thompson) - Graphic Novel

A Game of Thrones Graphic Novel vol. 1

OOPSIES. I totally forgot I bought two  cheap books for my Kindle! I always forget about those.

That's it for now.

I'll be posting my May wrap-up tomorrow!

Thanks for stopping by :)
