Waiting on Wednesday: Football and Teenage Angst!

This little gem is hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

One book I can't wait to sink my grubby little claws into is:

Wild Cards (Wild Cards, #1)

(Goodreads Summary)
After getting kicked out of boarding school, bad boy Derek Fitzpatrick has no choice but to live with his ditzy stepmother while his military dad is deployed. Things quickly go from bad to worse when he finds out she plans to move them back to her childhood home in Illinois. Derek’s counting the days before he can be on his own, and the last thing he needs is to get involved with someone else’s family drama.

Ashtyn Parker knows one thing for certain--people you care about leave without a backward glance. A football scholarship would finally give her the chance to leave. So she pours everything into winning a state championship, until her boyfriend and star quarterback betrays them all by joining their rival team. Ashtyn needs a new game plan, but it requires trusting Derek—someone she barely knows, someone born to break the rules. Is she willing to put her heart on the line to try and win it all?

Why I'm Waiting:  I LOVE Simone Elkeles' Perfect Chemistry series. (And the author is pretty darn cool in person as well) This one sounds fantastic! I love TV shows and movies having to do with football and I LOVE that the main character is a GIRL who plays football! OOOOH yeah.

Waiting on Wednesday: Dragon King Chronicles

This little gem is hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

One book I CAN'T WAIT to sink my grubby little claws into is:

Prophecy (The Dragon Chronicles #1) by Ellen Oh

Prophecy (The Dragon King Chronicles, #1)
The greatest warrior in all of the Seven Kingdoms... is a girl with yellow eyes.

Kira’s the only female in the king’s army, and the prince’s bodyguard. She’s a demon slayer and an outcast, hated by nearly everyone in her home city of Hansong. And, she’s their only hope...

Murdered kings and discovered traitors point to a demon invasion, sending Kira on the run with the young prince. He may be the savior predicted in the Dragon King Prophecy, but the missing treasure of myth may be the true key. With only the guidance of the cryptic prophecy, Kira must battle demon soldiers, evil shaman, and the Demon Lord himself to find what was once lost and raise a prince into a king.

Intrigue and mystery, ancient lore and action-packed fantasy come together in this heart-stopping first book in a trilogy.

The Why: I LOVE strong female heroine characters, and this one sounds like she fits the bill! Everything about this summary makes me desperate to read this book!! Sounds amazing!

Waiting on Wednesday: Scent of Magic

This little gem is hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

One book I can't wait to sink my grubby little claws into is:

Scent of Magic (Healer #2) by Maria V. Snyder

Scent of Magic (Healer, #2)

(Goodreads Link)

Hunted, Killed—Survived?

As the last Healer in the Fifteen Realms, Avry of Kazan is in a unique position: in the minds of her friends and foes alike, she no longer exists. Despite her need to prevent the megalomanical King Tohon from winning control of the Realms, Avry is also determined to find her sister and repair their estrangement. And she must do it alone, as Kerrick, her partner and sole confident, returns to Alga to summon his country into battle.

Though she should be in hiding, Avry will do whatever she can to support Tohon’s opponents. Including infiltrating a holy army, evading magic sniffers, teaching forest skills to soldiers and figuring out how to stop Tohon’s most horrible creations yet; an army of the walking dead—human and animal alike and nearly impossible to defeat.

War is coming and Avry is alone. Unless she figures out how to do the impossible ... again.

The Why: I love Maria's writing. If you haven't checked out her Poison Study series yet you're seriously missing out; the main character is hella awesome...as is VALEK! But seriously, everyone should read it, amazing story. Not a big fan of this cover, but whatevs. Anyways, this is the second book in her Healer series, the first one is Touch of Power. I can't wait to see where the author is going to go with this one. CAN'T WAIT.
You can read my review for Touch of Power HERE.

This little gem is hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

One book that I can't wait to be released is:

Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X #1) by Richelle Mead

Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, #1)

(Goodreads Link/Blurb)
In a futuristic world nearly destroyed by religious extremists, Justin March lives in exile after failing in his job as an investigator of religious groups and supernatural claims. But Justin is given a second chance when Mae Koskinen comes to bring him back to the Republic of United North America (RUNA). Raised in an aristocratic caste, Mae is now a member of the military’s most elite and terrifying tier, a soldier with enhanced reflexes and skills.

When Justin and Mae are assigned to work together to solve a string of ritualistic murders, they soon realize that their discoveries have exposed them to terrible danger. As their investigation races forward, unknown enemies and powers greater than they can imagine are gathering in the shadows, ready to reclaim the world in which humans are merely game pieces on their board.

Gameboard of the Gods, the first installment of Richelle Mead’s Age of X series, will have all the elements that have made her YA Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series such megasuccesses: sexy, irresistible characters; romantic and mythological intrigue; and relentless action and suspense.

Waiting on Wednesday: Days of Blood and Starlight

This little gem is hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

One book that I am DYING to get my hands on is:

Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor
(This is the sequel to Daughter of Smoke & Bone)

Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #2)(Quick GoodReads Overview)
In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Karou must come to terms with who and what she is, and how far she'll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, mysteries and secrets, new characters and old favorites, Days of Blood and Starlight brings the richness, color and intensity of the first book to a brand new canvas.

The Why: Let's start with the cover. GORGEOUS.  Now.  Daughter of Smoke and Bone was one of my favorite reads this year. I FELL IN LOVE. Some of the best writing I've ever come across. Beautiful, lyrical, gut-wrenching, amazing. The world, the characters..oh my gosh. The first book ripped my heart right out of my chest.  And I CAN'T WAIT to see what this book does.  I need more of this world. I need more of these characters. I. NEED. MORE. Luckily I don't have TOOO long to wait.
Publication Date: 11/6/12

Waiting on Wednesday: Etiquette & Espionage

This little gem is hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

One book I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on is:

Etiquette and Espionage (Finishing School, #1)It's one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It's quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to finishing school.

Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is the bane of her mother's existence. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper etiquette at tea--and god forbid anyone see her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. She enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.

But little do Sophronia or her mother know that this is a school where ingenious young girls learn to finish, all right--but it's a different kind of finishing. Mademoiselle Geraldine's certainly trains young ladies in the finer arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but also in the other kinds of finishing: the fine arts of death, diversion, deceit, espionage, and the modern weaponries. Sophronia and her friends are going to have a rousing first year at school.

First in a four book YA series set 25 years before the Parasol Protectorate but in the same universe.  (Goodreads blurb)

The Why: The cover. The title. The blurb. It's all rockin'. Sounds like an awesome read to me! Although it worries me a little about the main character only being 14, but hopefully the author writes her with a little maturity. Now. Why couldn't I have gone to a boarding school like this? What kid DOESN'T need to learn about the fine arts of death, diversion, deceit, espionage and modern weaponries?  Oh yeah can't wait for this one!

Waiting on Wednesday (#4)

SplinteredWaiting On Wednesday is hosted over at Breaking the Spine. It highlights upcoming releases we are stoked for.

This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own. (Goodreads blurb)

The Why:
First of all, I am in LOVE with this cover, so freakin gorgeous.  Secondly, the summary for this book sounds wickedly awesome! (Due for publication January 2013)

Waiting on Wednesday (#3)

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

It's all about highlighting the book(s) we can't wait to be released!!

Okay, here's one book I'm looking forward to reading:

The Casual Vacancy(Summary from Amazon)

When Barry Fairweather dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.

Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.

Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.

And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

THE WHY:  Okay. So. I plan on buying and devouring (hopefully smoothly with no feeling of indigestion) this book for one reason and one reason only. The amazing, talented, magical genius that is J.K. Rowling. It's no small secret that my favorite series in the history of forever is Harry Potter. This is J.K.'s first novel for adults. I guess I'm an adult.. sometimes. I don't like the cover or  the title and if this book was written by anyone else I would pass it right by after reading the summary. BUT it's J.K. FREAKING ROWLING. And I optimistically believe she will not let me down. Even though this book doesn't contain quidditch, butterbeer or house elves (that we know of...). LET ME AT IT!

To be released September 27th!!
