July Wrap-up!

Nothing major happened in July, personal wise.  Same ole work. Eat, sleep, repeat. I had a lot of blah reads this month.  And just a couple awesome ones. BUT I managed to read towards some of my challenges for the year. I read my first classic! 2, since I'm counting The Hobbit. I finished a series! I read some books that have been on my shelf for a bit! AND I won 2 ARCS in goodreads giveaways. Woot. I love winning things.

So at the beginning of the month I attempted to read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Everybody talks about this book and Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy and blahblahblah. For my classics challenge, I felt like I needed to give this book a go. I read 11% and gave up. I DNF'd that shit.  I just could not get into the old timey English talk. It was boring and confusing and too wordy and did I mention boring. I could see that there was a good story somewhere in there, but I just couldn't get past the writing. Not my cup-o-tea.

I finally forced myself to read The Great Gatsby. It wasn't that difficult to get through, but it was a TERRIBLE book. Awful. Hated it. The story is stupid and depressing and the characters are not likeable AT ALL.  Gotta love those classics.

I re-read Paranormalcy so I could finish up that series. The first book was good, funny. But then it went downhill. The main character got so freaking annoying and I just couldn't take it. I finished the series but I wasn't happy about it!

I won an ARC of Letters from Skye (Jessica Brockmole) and it ended up being one of my favorite reads for the month. It's an adultish historical fiction, which is usually NOT my go-to genre. But it was beautiful. I even wrote a review for it! HERE

    1. It was prolly just me getting tired of the series. If you loved the first one you'll prolly be good! I'm on a slow-down now with the reading. I think I may have gone overboard last month! Thanks for the comment :)

  3. Wow, you read a lot of books. I mean, I read 6 books in July, that's it. It sucks that most of them were just blah reads though :(.

It took my forever to get through the Great Gatsby. A week is just to long to be reading a 150 page book. And I agree, the book was a little depressing.

Now I am officially never reading the rest of the Paranormalcy series. I thought the main character was annoying in the first one, there is no way I am reading the second one if she gets More annoying.
    Happy August reading Elizabeth :D

    1. Ha yeah...I went a little crazy with the book reading last month. I'm taking it slower this month. As far as the Paranormalcy series, if you thought the character was annoying in the first one...I mean...yeah.. it only got worse in my eyes.
      Thanks for stopping by :)
